The culture and values of our little rugby club are at the heart of all that we do. We want our kids to play well, have fun and experience the great buzz that comes from a community of people coming together to achieve something special.
With that in mind we will once again this year be offering a way for our junior boys and girls to “lend a helping hand” to our community through Relay for Life.
Relay for Life is an initiative of the Cancer Council, a charity that raises funds for research and prevention of cancer and support of people affected by cancer.
Each year thousands of people walk laps of their local sporting ground to raise money as part of the Relay. People usually enter as a team, taking turns to walk and challenge themselves to keep going from 4pm to 10am the next day, symbolising the darkness and return of light that is the fight against cancer.
The Hawthorn Relay for Life is held at our home ground, 423 Auburn Road and of course, Kiwi Hawthorn will be part of it!
So, on Saturday March 23 our team, Redback Rugby Stars will be walking laps (yes with rugby ball in hand!) of the oval from 4pm with a bunch of other kids and families, school and community groups, walking through the night in relay format and camping at the reserve, finishing at 10am on the following Sunday morning.
There will be movies, music and entertainment, food trucks, plus the fun of camping out in the city!
We encourage you to join our families on this relay, representing our great junior club while also helping raise funds for a fantastic cause close to many of us.
If you don’t think you’re up for the whole night, that is absolutely fine too, you can register and be part of the event, staying as long as you like.
And if you can’t make it but still want to support the team, you can donate to our goal of raising $5,000 by clicking here:
Please see the details below and if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact Junior Club Committee member Pete Taitoko on 0419 018 442.
