We lucked out again with another sparkling Saturday morning at our home ground at John Gardiner Reserve.
During our warm up, we focused on taking the ball safely into contact and securing possession at the breakdown. Nice clear out Lucas!
After a few last minute tips, Lucas was named Captain for the day and proudly led our team – Adonai, Billy, Charlie, Darcy and Devonte – out on to the ground.
It wasn’t long before we got the scoreboard ticking over with tries that came from good straight running and quickly recycled ball.
He’s got options, left and right, great support!
We got away to an early lead, thanks to a few dashing runs from Darcy and Adonai (and Cooper who joined us from Racing for the first half), with great support from Lucas, Charlie, Billy and Devonte.
Go Jetboots!
But it wasn’t long before Racing fought back – they are a quality outfit and we needed to bring our best game to match them!
There were some great tackles from all the boys…
…but special mention to Lucas for his great work rate, here he is nailing one of Racing’s best, a couple of times, oof!
This year, not only are we tackling and dealing with the breakdown for the first time, but scrums and lineouts have been introduced to the game.
The boys love it: could be a future Wallabies front row right here.
Intimidation!
With just minutes to go, Devonte secured the ball and made a scintillating dash for the line. Look at the way he’s carrying the ball in two hands, bringing a smile to the Rebels talent scout in the background!
All of the parents are proud of our boys, especially the way they play together as a team, playing for each other, as much as themselves.
Another very tough decision, but our best on ground award this week goes to Billy, in recognition of his great work rate, always chasing the ball and supporting the ball carrier. Fantastic effort Billy in only your second game – well done!
