P1110584It was a mixed bag of weather this Saturday for our final game, against our toughest competition yet – Powerhouse. It was windy, cold and wet and the parents were all a little worried about getting soaked and muddy, but that didn’t hold our smallest players back for a minute……

The kids came ready for a challenging match and that is exactly what they got. A team ready to push us to our limits, and test us on every corner of the paddock.

Numerous tries were scored by both sides, and defensively both teams played well. We saw some good improvements in running in a straight line forwards and passing backwards and this showed on the scoreboard. It is entirely possible that Powerhouse pipped us to the post when the final whistle blew, but hey, for U7’s who keeps score? The important score is HOW MUCH FUN WE HAD! And in that respect, we were winners!

Thanks go to our new friend from Powerhouse who happily donned a KH Juniors jersey to even the teams out today. He was a magnificent addition and is welcome back any time!

Well kids, it’s been a great season! We’ve played some good rugby, learned new skills and made new friends. Our U7’s team has been a delight to watch, and the sportsmanship that has been displayed this year has been a credit to our club.

Many thanks to Coach George who has worked tirelessly all season to provide our kids with a safe and fun place to play and learn. The oldest kids who are graduating to U8’s next year will be more than prepared for the challenge, and we have a great foundation with the younger kids who will resume U7’s again in 2018. George’s patience and persistence has been a great asset to our team.

At the end of the season, after months of little (and not-so-little) feet playing on the grounds our field is looking worse for wear. It provided much entertainment for the kids after the game, jumping in puddles, but is not ideal as a playing surface (or for the parents responsible for washing kit!) We are looking forward to seeing you all back at Kiwi Hawthorn next year – hopefully bringing mates with you to grow our Juniors program further.

And don’t forget, if you can’t wait until next winter to get your rugby fix, make sure you’re part of the Viva 7’s Summer competition – open to the whole family.
