Another glorious Melbourne Autumn morning – perfect for running rugby and that’s what our boys did!
The giants of Eltham came down from the hills and after a good warm up, we were ready to go with Aiden named our Captain for the game.
In just his first season, Aiden is already making a significant contribution to our team, both in terms of skill and raw determination. Aiden this is your game!
But he is not alone out there. All of our new players and boys who are new to tackle this year (10 of 14) have started well and indeed, every member of our team and the team itself is improving with every game.
Eltham got off to a quick start but we fought back and, especially in the second half, our game started to come together as more tackles stuck and we started to make some line breaks. A shout out to Tom and George especially for finding the gaps.
Highlight this week was how we controlled the breakdown and retained possession. We do need to support our runners and work more at rushing up in defence.
In fact, we are blessed with choice when it comes to areas to work on, but inspired also by the enthusiasm the boys bring to each game and the true rugby sportsmanship in which they play the game: boys you’re making all your families very proud.
It was a tough decision, but our medal for the player best embodying the spirit of Kiwi Hawthorn Juniors today went to Henry, who played a stand out game at half-back. Well done Henry!
Next week: Moorabbin!
